The story of Nova Checkout.

A checkout that renders faster than the customer can second-guess it.

01 — 2.4 seconds is a lifetime

The client is a house you have heard of. Their brand is impeccable, their runway coverage is legendary, and their mobile checkout was a 2.4-second time-to-interactive served from a single US region. In Jakarta, that felt like a modem. Cart abandonment on mobile in APAC had climbed to 22%, and every quarterly review ended with the same slide.

02 — Edge as an architecture, not an add-on

We rebuilt checkout as a Next.js app on Cloudflare Workers, with cart state living in Durable Objects at the edge instead of round-tripping to a US-East database. PCI-scoped Stripe flows were carved out into isolated micro-frontends so the sensitive path could evolve on its own release cadence. Six regions, anycast routing, per-region A/B fallbacks.

03 — The 40ms line

The p99 time-to-interactive globally is now 40 milliseconds. In Jakarta, it feels instant. In São Paulo, it feels instant. In Berlin, it feels instant. Cart abandonment dropped from 22% to 9% inside the first month.

04 — The revenue tail

Eighteen million dollars of incremental revenue in the first quarter after launch. The finance team wrote it up as a run-rate change. The engineering team wrote it up as a case study. The customer told us the fastest ROI they'd ever seen on a technology investment.

We stopped talking about checkout in QBRs. That is the win.

— Epilogue

The same edge architecture is now being extended into their product detail pages and search, targeting a full-funnel edge rollout by mid-2026.
